Flash Player, also known as Adobe Flash Player and Shockwave Flash, is a free software developed by Adobe Systems.
It is commonly used as a web browser plug-in to view content that was created on the Adobe Flash platform. Flash Player was required to view You Tube content until Google recently made the move to default instead to HTML5 in January, 2015.

For some pieces of software, I have come to the conclusion that it is a habit and is often not necessary even when told to do so.
If I don't think that a piece of software should have done anything major to the operating system, I tend not to bother, and haven't experienced any problems (and if there were problems they would be easy to solve).
Other content, such as advertisements, rich Internet media, and some web-based applications, still require Flash Player in order to view them.
